ADHD

The CDC has published a survey that indicates between 2003 and 2007, the number of kids between four and 17 with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) jumped by one million, a 22% increase.  It is not clear what has caused this rise, but more awareness of this disease and more screening may account for part of the increase.  There is some concern kids may be lumped into this category due to inaccurate diagnosis because they have ADHD-related behaviors.  Factors including lead exposure, low birth weight, and premature birth have all been shown to contribute to ADHD symptoms.
